John, 1, 2, and 3

All three letters were written between AD 85 and 100 by John, one of Jesus’s twelve disciples. First John was probably sent to the churches in Asia (now Turkey), where John lived toward the end of his long life. In this letter, John warned his readers about the false teachers in the area who preached untrue things about Jesus. John wrote to explain the truth. In 2 John, John again warned the church about false teachings. Believers were to avoid inviting false teachers into their homes. Third John was written to Gaius, a leader in one of the churches. John praised Gaius for inviting some of the traveling Christian teachers to stay in his home. He also said that Diotrephes, another man in the church, was not pleasing God by the way he treated John and other Christians.
