Kingdom of God

God’s rule over people and places. In the Old Testament, God ruled over the people of Israel. In the New Testament, the kingdom people are Christians. When we say that Jesus is our Lord, we are saying that He is the King of our lives. Jesus mentioned God’s kingdom in the prayer He taught His disciples. This means we are praying that all people will recognize God as King and obey Him.

The phrases kingdom of God and kingdom of heaven mean the same thing. The Jewish people said “kingdom of heaven” because they felt God’s name was too sacred to speak.

The Bible speaks of an earthly kingdom of God and a heavenly kingdom. God will finally remove evil from all of His creation. Then His kingdom (both earth and heaven) will be free from all sin.
