Mark, gospel of

This gospel was the first of the four to be written—around AD 55–65 by John Mark, a relative of Barnabas. Mark records Jesus’s actions more than His words. Mark did not write about Jesus’s birth or childhood. He starts with Jesus as a grown man meeting John the Baptist. This gospel tells about Jesus’s temptation, His work in His home region of Galilee, and His choosing and training of disciples. It describes many of Jesus’s miracles and shows that Jesus was a helper of others as well as Master of the universe.
