When the angel Gabriel told her she would give birth to God’s Son, she asked, “How can this be?” The angel explained that God would work a miracle through her and that the child to be born would not be Joseph’s son, but the Son of God. She responded with a beautiful hymn of praise. Shortly after that she married Joseph, a carpenter to whom she was engaged. Mary remembered all the wonderful events surrounding Jesus’s birth and probably shared them later with the apostles and the gospel writers.
