Nahum

An Old Testament prophet who wrote a short book of prophecy. Nothing else is known about the man except that he came from the town of Elkosh—the location of which is not known either. His book is full of poetic, powerful word pictures about God’s strength and goodness. Nahum prophesied the defeat of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. At this time in history (sometime between 663 and 612 BC) the Assyrians were threatening the kingdom of Judah. The idea that Nineveh could ever be defeated seemed impossible. But Nahum’s prophecy came true in 612 BC, when Nineveh was conquered by Babylon.
