Red Sea

A large body of water thirteen hundred miles long, stretching from the Indian Ocean up to the Suez Canal. Although the Red Sea is salty, its waters are green and clear, and many fish and other forms of life thrive there. A marshy area that may have once been a northern finger of the Red Sea between the Mediterranean and the Gulf of Suez was important in the Old Testament. This area, more properly called the “Sea of Reeds,” probably was the water that God miraculously separated to let the people of Israel cross as they fled from the Egyptians.
