Redeem/Redemption

Paying the price for land or someone enslaved so that the land can be returned to its original owner, or the slave can be set free. In the Old Testament, Boaz bought (or redeemed) a piece of land from Naomi. In the New Testament, redemption is a word picture to show how Jesus, by His death and resurrection, redeemed—

freed—us from our slavery to sin. On the cross, Jesus gave His life to set people free. He made possible a new life and new freedom to live as God’s children.
