Samuel, 1 and 2

The two parts were one book until about 200 BC, when the Bible was translated into Greek. The translators then divided it into two parts, and it is now known as 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel. Although the books are named after Samuel, who was a judge, prophet, and priest, no one knows who wrote them. First Samuel tells the history of the Israelites from the birth of Samuel to the death of King Saul. Second Samuel records the events during David’s rise to the throne of Israel (chapters 1–10) and the problems that occurred after David’s sin with Bathsheba (chapters 11–24).
