Sling

A common weapon for hunting animals and for war. It was not like our slingshots. The sling was made of two narrow strips of leather joined in the middle by a wider piece where the stone was held. The person using it tied one end to his wrist and twirled the other end above his head before releasing the stone. Seven hundred left-handed men from the tribe of Benjamin were so skilled that they could “sling stones at an hair breadth, and not miss” (Judg. 20:16 kjv). David killed the giant Goliath with such a sling. Men with slings were a regular part of the armies of Israel.
