Stephen

The first Christian known to die for his faith. He was one of seven deacons in the church in Jerusalem who were chosen to be in charge of giving food and money to poor widows. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Stephen performed miracles and preached before the Jewish council when he was accused of blasphemy. Those who listened became so angry they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.
