Tent

A movable shelter made of cloth or skins supported by poles—the regular living place of many Old Testament people and of shepherds and soldiers in the New Testament. Most tents in Bible times were made of goats’ hair cloth. Often the covering appeared striped because of the addition of patches over worn or torn places. People slept inside on coarse straw mats and cooked on stoves that were only a group of stones at the tent entrance, or a hole in the ground. When Rebekah arrived with Eliezar to marry Isaac, Isaac brought Rebekah to his mother’s tent. The tabernacle used by Israel in the wilderness was a tent.
