Truth
A fact; something that can be trusted. Truth is an absolute: something that acts as a standard for all other things. God is the source of all truth. He is the “true” God. The idols that many nations worshipped (Baal, Dagon, and so on) were “false” gods—not real. Jesus described Himself as “the truth.” This meant that Jesus came from God. Everything He said and did was “the truth”—a true representation of God. When Jesus was put on trial before Pilate, Jesus explained that He was sent by God to testify to the truth. Pilate then asked, “What is truth?” Pilate had no idea what truth was!
Witnesses in trials were ordered to tell the truth. After all, a person’s life often was at stake! Truth can also be described as important teachings and messages that come from God. Jesus taught people the truth of God and His kingdom. In many of his letters, Paul urged Christians to be obedient to the truth.
