Wrath of God

God’s anger with sin. The Old Testament prophets often talked about the wrath of God and what He would allow to happen to the people if they turned away from Him. Because God is holy and loves us, He is angry when we turn away from Him and fail to become all He wants us to be. If God did not care about us, He would not be angry when we mess up or try to mess up the lives of others.

When the people of Israel grumbled or rebelled against God, they felt God’s wrath in the form of plagues, fires, and enemy nations that conquered them for a time. Jesus came to die for our sins and to free us from the punishment of God’s wrath. When Jesus died on the cross, God poured out His anger on Jesus to make forgiveness with God possible. In the final judgment, all people who refuse Christ’s way of salvation must face the wrath of God.
