Zedekiah
The last king of Judah. After King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon captured Jehoiachin, the previous king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar chose Zedekiah to be king. Zedekiah was twenty-one years old at the time, and ruled for eleven years. He did not obey God’s commands, nor would he listen to the advice of the prophet Jeremiah.
Jeremiah told Zedekiah that the Lord wanted Zedekiah to surrender to the Babylonians and spare the city from destruction. The Babylonian army had surrounded the city, and all food supplies were cut off. Instead of following Jeremiah’s advice, Zedekiah and his soldiers tried to flee. He was captured and his sons were killed. Zedekiah was blinded and the city was destroyed in 586 BC.
