Burial

Placing a dead body in a grave or tomb. The dead usually were buried in caves, because the ground in many caves consists of rock with only a small layer of soil, so digging is difficult. Sarah, Jacob, Joseph, and others were buried in the cave of Machpelah in Hebron. In Jesus’s day, dead bodies were wrapped in clean linen with spices and oils before burial. After His crucifixion, Jesus was buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea.
