Holy/Holiness

Set apart or separate. It is a word that describes God. God is pure and loving, and completely unable to sin. God’s holiness means He is completely separate from sin. Like oil and water, God and sin don’t mix.

Because Jesus also is God, He has the same character as God. This means He is without sin too. That’s why He was the perfect sacrifice to die for the wrongs everyone else did. His sacrifice gives those who believe in Him the power to be holy. This means we are set apart as God’s people. We are to act differently than those who don’t believe in God.

Items used in the tabernacle and temple were considered holy. Some could be handled only by priests. The ark of the covenant had to be carried with poles. Anyone who touched it died instantly.
