Last Supper

The last meal Jesus ate with His disciples before His crucifixion. This Passover meal took place on a Thursday evening in an upper room of a house in Jerusalem.

Almost everything about it was unusual, starting earlier in the day, when Jesus sent Peter and John to find a place for the meal. He told them to enter Jerusalem and then follow a man carrying a water pitcher. When the man arrived at home, the two disciples were to ask to use one of the rooms in the house for the evening. Everything happened as Jesus had described.

After the meal was finished, Jesus shocked His disciples by washing their feet, which was a slave’s job. He also announced that one of His disciples would betray Him and that Peter would deny knowing Him. During this meal, Jesus started a tradition now known as Communion. Afterward, they sang a hymn and left for the garden of Gethsemane.
