Luke, gospel of
Written about AD 60 by the only Gentile gospel writer—Luke, a doctor who traveled with Paul during Paul’s missionary journeys. Luke wrote his gospel for Gentiles to record in an orderly way exactly what Jesus said and did. He records the full story of the birth of Jesus and includes a story from the boyhood of Jesus that no other gospel has. Throughout the book, Luke shows Jesus’s concern for people. He also points out the many times Jesus prayed—at His baptism, after cleansing the leper, before calling His disciples, on the Mount of Transfiguration, on the cross, and at His death. Luke also includes many of Jesus’s parables, including the Good Samaritan (10:25–37); the lost sheep (15:1–7); the lost coin (15:8–10); and the lost son (15:11–31).
