Rachel

The beautiful, favorite wife of Jacob, and the mother of Joseph and Benjamin. She was also Jacob’s cousin and the daughter of Laban. She met Jacob after he fled from his brother Esau’s anger. Although Jacob fell in love with her and agreed to work for Laban for seven years in order to marry her, Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Leah. In exchange for another seven years of work, Jacob was allowed to marry Rachel.

For a long time, Rachel could not have children and was jealous of Leah. When she finally had a son, Joseph, the child was Jacob’s favorite. Rachel later had another son, Benjamin, but Rachel died in childbirth.
