Rebekah

The wife of Isaac and the scheming mother of Jacob and Esau. Rebekah was the sister of Laban. When Abraham wanted a bride for his son Isaac, he sent his servant Eliezar back to his relatives at Haran to find a suitable woman. There Eliezar met Rebekah at a well and asked her for some water. She not only gave him water, but also watered all his camels. This was a big job, because camels that have been traveling drink many gallons of water.

Once Rebekah agreed to go with Eliezar, she became the wife of Isaac. But they had no children for twenty years. Finally God answered their prayers, and twins were born—Esau and Jacob. Esau was the firstborn, but Rebekah loved Jacob more and wanted him to get the birthright that belonged to the firstborn. Esau was so angry that Rebekah had to send Jacob back to Haran to stay with her family to be safe.
