Caesarea

A city on the Mediterranean Sea named in honor of Caesar Augustus. It was about sixty-five miles northwest of Jerusalem. During the first century, it was the official capital of Israel. Caesarea was the military headquarters for the Roman army in the area. The first time Peter preached to Gentiles was in Caesarea in the house of Cornelius, a Roman soldier.
