Philip

A deacon and evangelist. Philip was a Greek-speaking Jewish man and one of seven deacons chosen to provide food for poor widows in Jerusalem. After Stephen was stoned to death, Philip went to the city of Samaria to preach. Many people believed in Jesus, and God did some miracles of healing through Philip. Philip met an Ethiopian palace official who was reading the book of Isaiah in a chariot. Philip explained that Jesus was the Messiah about whom the prophet Isaiah had written. The Ethiopian believed in Jesus, and Philip baptized him. Then the Holy Spirit led Philip away to preach in other towns. Philip later lived in Caesarea. Paul the apostle often stayed with him when he traveled to Caesarea. Philip had four unmarried daughters who were prophets.
