Jehoiada

A high priest and uncle of Joash, a king of Judah. When Joash was a baby, Jehoiada and his wife, Jehosheba, rescued him from being killed by his grandmother, Athaliah. Jehoiada and Jehosheba hid Joash in the temple. When Joash was seven years old, Jehoiada told the palace guards that the true heir to the throne was alive. Jehoiada planned with them to have the boy crowned king when Queen Athaliah was away. The plan worked. Jehoiada later became an important adviser to Joash. He directed the destruction of many of the altars to the false god Baal. Jehoiada and Joash also arranged to have the temple repaired. Because of his importance and his good work, Jehoiada was buried among the kings when he died at age 130.
