Transfiguration, the

A change in form or appearance. The word is used to describe the time when a dramatic change took place in Jesus’s physical appearance as the disciples Peter, James, and John watched. This event took place on Mount Tabor or Mount Hermon shortly before His last trip to Jerusalem. As Jesus was praying, His face began to shine like the sun. His clothes became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared and talked with Jesus about His coming death. Jesus’s disciples were amazed and terrified.
